Queerly Operatic

Queerly Operatic has more than 140 members, both women and men, from newbies to big fans. Each in-home event is limited to 12 people so everyone gets a chance to know each other.  New members are always made very welcome!

We meet for potlucks, videos, and performances: lots of early opera (Rossini, Mozart, and backwards from there); gender-bending operas (women play men in “trouser” roles); and selections from S.F. Opera's current season. Our monthly potluck and opera DVD nights are walking distance from the North Berkeley BART (usually on the second Saturday of the month), with occasional special events in San Francisco and the East Bay.  We also sometimes attend Metropolitan Opera “Live in HD” performances together.

Upcoming Events:

January 21, 2012: Housewarming potluck and opera video night:

“Semele” with Cecilia Bartoli!

5 pm, Berkeley near North Berkeley BART.

See the MeetUp group (link below) for details.

By signing up, you'll get an e-mail invitation a week or two before each event, with a description of that month's opera. Once you RSVP, you'll get an e-mail a few days before the event with directions and details of what to bring. The mailing list is low-volume, not a discussion list; you'll get about 3 messages a month (an announcement and reminder about our monthly gathering, plus occasional event announcements).  (No, no spam!  No, no, no!)

To sign up, head to MeetUp.com. (We’re on MeetUp now because it’s easier to organize and it’s fun to get to see who else is in the group.  The privacy settings are set so that only approved members can see who else is a member.)

And don't forget to tell your Bay Area opera-loving friends about Queerly Operatic!
